Well spent evening at Carriage Works!

Well, well, well. What's the time? Well its around 4:20 pm. What! We got to go! Well, at first you don't know where you gotta go. But then I say Carriage Works. My dad is like -_-

Come on dad, it's been almost 11 months...

At first he thought we were going down south line. But I strongly suggested it. Because I had planned so! And this was my last chance.

Ahhh! Leave it. Let's come to the point!
Well, it was a fine Sunday. I had fixed up a railfanning session at Perambur Carriage Works which is the station 700 meters ahead of Perambur towards Tiruvallur. I had Gautham Karthik and Nikhil Shah accompanying me. :) It was almost 11 months since I went to a station for railfanning. So dad was taking me to Carriage Works.

It's one of the finest drives around Chennai. At first you reach Koyambedu. Then go join main road turning left towards Anna Nagar. Then go straight and eventually you will come to Padi flyover where you go right. Then you reach ICF territory. It is so peaceful there filled with trees and quiet roads. Then we searched for the station. And it was surprising where we found it!

We came down a silent road where there was a office belonging to some ICF department. There was a flight of stairs up front. The road was going right and ahead was open land with bushes. We asked a passerby to the entrance. He said go straight.

Eventually the flight of stairs turned out to lead straight to the foot-over bridge of the station. And now you had a superb view of the station. So I called up my friend to update his location.
As usual he was first to arrive -_-
But there was not much difference...

He was in the platform. We soon met up in the footbridge. Nikhil had messaged me earlier that he was joining later. Soon his EMU came in at around 4:30 pm. We three met up. We had a little chit chat for some time. It was truly a nice station.

A BEML made EMU makes its way into the station...

Time showed 4:54 pm...
First action of the day.

A cute little honk was heard in the distance coming from Perambur station. It was the Tirupati bound Garudadri Express departing after its scheduled halt. Soon it crawled and accelerated past Carriage Works. We three were shooting from the foot-over bridge.
It was an Erode WAP-4 #22543 in the lead.

You can watch the video here:
Garudadri Express breezes away...

Soon he went towards Villivakkam...

Someone to acknowledge our presence... :)

It was nearing 5:00 pm. The sun was at it's mighty best. And it illuminated the surroundings pretty well. Towards the Villivakkam side from the foot-over bridge, there was lots of lighting making it quite unsatisfactory for good captures. The Perambur side was well lit and gave a good view.

Here's a view from our point on the foot-over bridge...

5:00 pm showed the clock.
A train was coming...

A loud honk is heard in the distance and the light made it difficult to see. And then a red loco showed up. A loco manufactured exactly 3,288 days before I was born came loudly honking from the illumination. A loco who originated with Ghaziabad and went to AJJ and then to Royapuram and again back to AJJ :)

It was Arakkonam's old guy WAP-1 #22042 hauling the 19420 Ahmedabad-Chennai Central running bang on time. A sweet tone honking show as it proceeded towards its halt at Perambur, slowly decelerating.

Watch the video here:
ADI-MAS Express speeds past Carriage Works!

We still stayed on the foot-over bridge.

5:03 pm...

On an overall basis, the station was quite undisturbed and empty. The station had a sudden spurt of people when an EMU came in and out and then it was clear.

Talks went on for some time... chit chat...

5:08 pm...

Some of the heat started to go down and we decided to go down to the platform for the rest of the action from the evening.

Simultaneously an EMU goes towards Villivakkam...

5:13 pm...
Soon we got down to the platform and this was the view...

Pretty good right?

This was the view towards Perambur side. Perambur station is also clearly visible in the horizon...

What a quaint place although in a busy neighborhood...

5:15 pm...
A honk comes from Perambur side. The tracks start making sounds. A bright red guy comes curving past Perambur station at full speed. After PER, all trains begin to accelerate like hell and by the time they reach Villivakkam, they are like 100+ kph :)

This was the 12685 Chennai Central-Mangalore Superfast Express with ED WAP-4 in the lead. To my good fortune, I shook my cam badly and the shot went ugly. :(

I managed to take a snap of the train going towards VLK...

The fact was that this train was the guy getting LHB rakes the next day. So cool! SR making unexpected moves. A really surprising addition to the LHB community!

5:20 pm...
A random shot of the place...

And a shot of the station board which is mandatory :P

5:24 pm...

Crow gang have some talks on the overhead wires... :P

5:31 pm...

As we were facing VLK side and talking, I took out biscuits and we shared it amongst us.

I turned for a bit and saw WAM-4 coming fast with the next train on the hit list. :P

It was the 17651 Chennai Egmore-Kacheguda Express which is now Chengalpattu-Kacheguda after extension rushed past with old guy WAM-4 6PE #21320 of Arakkonam shed.

The place offered a good views from the FOB, but down here there were these annoying OHE poles spoiling the good stuff. Anyways... moving on...

And there it goes towards the next halt... sunlight illuminating the rake :)

A fresh feeling each time a train passes by... beautiful!

5:34 pm...

These are the hours of the evening that I love the most. Reasons being the sun just becomes colorful and yellow bringing out great views and opportunities for some shots. One of 'em...

Simultaneously an EMU makes its way into the station for a halt...

The sun was kind of naturally increasing the saturation of the images from my camera. LOL :P

5:40 pm...

Another view... I can't help it. I am addicting to sky shots and sunsets...

Some views of the station overlooking both sides...

And a view of the station board... this time a close up...

A wider view including the catenary...

5:44 pm...

A massive member of the list was on the approach!

The bright red engine speeded past Perambur and honked its way announcing its presence as it approached our spot.

Yep! It was the 5:30 pm 12027 Chennai Central-KSR Bengaluru Shatabdi Express at its full glory. Not surprisingly today it was hauled by an Itarsi WAP-4 #22967. This train gets locos from some various sheds often.

Here's a snap:

The shiny LHB rake passed by, most of it smeared with adverts :(

Dad captured a video from the FOB simultaneously :)

5:47 pm...

A random shot...

The session came to a close now. Nothing else to do and it was getting dark and the sun was going down. Shah anna bid farewell and left homebound. Gautham and I walked for some time and he caught an EMU and went too...

I clicked some random shots before leaving...

A scene from the foot over bridge...

A view towards VLK side, the sun setting fast...

5:54 pm...

As dad and I were about to make a move, something caught my attention...

Not something big. Just a freight with dual WAG-7's coming from VLK side.

And gone...

And again something came from Perambur side... sharp at 6:00 pm...

It was the empty rake of Chennai Central-Haldia Superfast towed away to Carriage Works... it went out of focus :(

And there it goes...

And we made the move back home... :)
Exactly at 6:05 pm, we left.

6:14 pm...

A scene from New Avadi Road :)

As it came to be, it was a short railfanning session with two good friends. Not much to click so lots of random pics. It was a very fun day. Thanks to Gautham and Shah bro for accompanying.

So that's it folks! Another short session to an end. I do not know when my next session is and I hope it will come soon. Got lots of work and don't know if I can keep up but I will try to update at my best.

Thanks a lot and please feel free to comment, share and subscribe to my channel for rail action!

Peace out! \/.

Another Sunday morning at the MPS sector of the South Line...

Another riveting morning with high speed trains!!!
Where each train was average 15 mins late :P

It's again a fine Sunday. Alarm goes buzzing at 6:00 am. I was ready :D :D :D

It was nearing the end of March. The date was 29th March 2015. And my friend Gautham Karthik was accompanying me to one of the most beautiful station on the high speed section in the Chennai limits situated on the Chennai-Villipuram line!

The station is opposite to the Chennai International Airport. And has a beautiful curvy end with trains hitting 100+ km/hr.

A station which I have enjoyed since my childhood. Used to go out on any weekend with dad and biscuits in company. Used to relish the sight of the sunset and watch planes and trains!!!

Only one name comes to mind...
TIRUSULAM :-)

I left home right on schedule. It's a very enjoyable drive to the station with busy roads and then the free and fast Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road or the National Highway 45. Starts at Kathiapara Junction, Guindy and connects Chennai and Trichy and also connects the important towns of Dindugul and Theni.

One can catch the beautiful takeoffs from the runway which runs along with the road! That station will arrive in a few moments. You can see green vegetation and small hills and open spaces where boys can be seen enjoying the game of cricket.

So I reached the station.

There were 5 trains on the hit list:
16714 Rameshwaram-Chennai Egmore Sethu Express
16724 Trivandrum-Chennai Egmore Ananthapuri Express
16127 Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express
12651 Madurai-Hazrat Nizammudin Tamil Nadu Sampark Kranti
16853 Chennai Egmore-Thiruchirapalli Cholan Express

But we got 7 :D

First up... I entered the station.Dad got the platform ticket and we climbed up the stairs and I just stood. I was immediately given a headache!

My ears were treated to ear splitting honking and speed show. It was the late running 22624 Madurai-Chennai Egmore Mahal Superfast which was hauled by the Tondiarpet blue bird WDG-3A #13229. Oh my god what a honk show! It was carrying friend and fellow railfan Sriram Venkatesh on board.

TNP macho WDG-3A #13229 smashes Tirusulam with Mahal Superfast Express

Then the mist was slightly setting in... 8:04 am

Then I found my friend who was usually an early arrival guy. We spoke for a bit and suddenly the electric action began. I stood in my position and we were given a super musical honk show and flashing light show from the LP's by the late running 12694 Tuticorin-Chennai Egmore Pearl City (Muthu Nagar) Superfast Express. Was hauled my favorite WAP-4 of RPM. #22845. Caught the loco again on 21st April 2015 with the 13342 Alappuzha-Tatanagar Express.
I was on board 12609 Chennai-Bengaluru Intercity that time.
KGK can be seen shooting.

Oh wow!
Fresh feeling after that. Kinda woke me up. Hehehe.

Click the link below to watch the video

Lights blinking, honking, speeding Pearl City Express thrashes Tirusulam!!!

Then I started clicking some pics of the station.

At 8:06 am... somebody was in the horizon.
Come closer... ED WAP-4!!

It was Erode WAP-4 #22259 with the 16127 Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express. 22259 towed my 12164 MS-DR SF until Guntakal on 4th Dec 2014 if you guys remember the first post in this blog!

I took a video but never uploaded because it was too shaky and I was not interested in doing so. Please acknowledge xD.

Anyways here's some snaps for you guys.
Light played spoilsport :P

                               ED WAP-4 #22259 approaches slowly!

                                              The rake slowly passes away...

                                                     Goodbye dear...

Next train we were expecting was Ananthapuri.

So KGK had a go with my camera and I used his Lenovo S850.

This was his position.

8:14 am...
A fiery red beast came in. Fastest action of the day!

16714 Rameshwaram-Chennai Egmore Sethu Express comes in furiously and blasts the station with a chili red WAP-1 of AJJ numbered #22042. Most of them WAP-1's have lost the legacy livery!

Red beast attacks Tirusulam with the 16714 Sethu Express!

                                 There he goes......................

Video of Sethu can be seen here:

Flamboyant RPM WAP-1 in a hurry flashes past Tirusulam at top speed with Sethu Express!

8:28 am...
Pom pom!
A red beast furiously approaches round the curve. It was Erode WAP-4 again!

This time it was #22250. Erode beast 22250 hauling the Trivandrum-Chennai Egmore 16724 Ananthapuri Express rushes past. My cam worked well with Gautham :D

Here's his shot.

16724 Ananthapuri Express speeds away with ED P-4 #22250
So I took the video...
Can be seen here:

ED WAP-4 16724 Ananthapuri Express blasts Tirusulam!!!

So goes on...

We took a seat. But it was late until the next beast came.

8:40 am... get up, get up! I'm here!
It was grandpa's turn.

Don't know why but the southbound trains were crawling.

Again a crawling display. Arakkonam's grandpa WAP-1 #22013 comes in and curves away with the 16853 Chennai Egmore-Thiruchirapalli Cholan Express.

AJJ WAP-1 #22013 cruises with the Cholan Express

And there goes. Another train say adios!

                            Another train goes away...

So we finished the session and returned to the EMU platforms.

So some last pics of the station.

A view towards Chennai Egmore side. Meenambakkam station is just ahead.

The station has always mesmerized me since childhood. A hill, speedy trains and calm surroundings!

There was a TNSK missing :-O
But we guessed it was late. So Gautham was at the end of the platform. I was in the middle and was about to climb down the stairs to return home while I was thrilled.

A sweet tone honk was heard from the distance. Gautham was ready to capture. He thought I had left.

A red beauty came angrily around the corner and I took the most beautiful pic in my life. Results amazed me.

Red beast Royapuram WAP-4 #22785 came breezing past with the late running 12651 Madurai-Hazrat Nizammudin Tamil Nadu Sampark Kranti Express.

Here's what the results looked like. Was a bit early timed :D

RPM babe curves with the TNSK!

What a beautiful scene.
Here's another shot.

                                        Another view of the same!

The loco had the word "POOJA' written below the RPM logo.
It was because this loco was used for Ayudha Pooja at Trivandrum.

All is well that ends well.
It's been another awesome day of trainspotting!

What a way to spend a Sunday morning!

Well that's it for today. Will come up with a story or trip soon!
Stay tuned!
Thanks a lot!
